PTO Welcome letter for 2020-2021

Dear Ross Elementary Family,

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! The Ross Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) greatly misses seeing all the smiling faces of our Ross Elementary school community, but we know together we will make this year wonderful despite the challenges.

We remain committed to supporting our students, teachers, and families during this new school year, although the role the PTO plays this year will certainly look very different from previous years. In the past the PTO has organized and funded socials, assemblies, movie nights, fairs, and clubs to enrich the school experience for our students. Due to the many restrictions caused by the current health crisis, we cannot currently offer many of these fun events; however, the PTO is finding new and important ways to continue to support and enhance our students’ educational experience.

This year the PTO is funding the school’s subscription to BrainPOP, SpellingCity and Flocabulary. These resources serve as valuable instruction tools for our teachers and also make learning virtually more fun for our students. The PTO is also funding OverDrive access for our students, which will allow students to check out library books virtually to read on their iPads. It is our hope that these programs will enrich our students’ education both at home and in school when we are able to return to the classroom.

We were also pleased to be able to honor and thank our wonderful teachers with a Teacher Appreciation Lunch. The PTO provided boxed lunches and a small Target gift card to each teacher during the first week of school to help as they set up their classrooms and prepared their instruction plans for the school year.

This year, due to the current COVID restrictions, we will be delaying school pictures until the Spring of 2021. In the meantime, if you would like to get pictures of your child, children, or family anytime this fall or over the holiday season Jim Scott from Scott Studio will offer in person individual studio sessions. His studio is located at 8301 Perry Highway and all of his information can be found on his website https://jimscottstudio.com/ or you can contact him directly at 412-630-4620 to set up an appointment.

We are in the process of working with the school district to create a directory so Ross students and families can stay in touch, even while we are learning from home. This directory should be available very soon, so stay tuned for more information shortly.

Please be certain to “like” the Ross Elementary PTO Facebook page and subscribe to the Ross E-Link on the North Hills Website to stay up-to-date on PTO news and information.

We miss you and cannot wait until we can all be back in school together and doing all the fun activities we love to do! Until then, we are here supporting our school community in any way we can. We hope you all have a healthy and happy start to the school year – we know it will be a great one!

Best Regards,
Erin Sekerak
PTO President
